FarmBooks Installation & Setup: Online Instructions for
Current FarmBooks Users Needing to Upgrade

This article is for FarmBooks 3.x users wishing to upgrade to FarmBooks 4.0.

Step I: Backup your FarmBooks database

1. Click on File: Backup.

2. Select your Farm Database and click Next.
Step 2

3. After your backup has completed, click OK and then close out of FarmBooks.

Step II: Upgrade to FarmBooks v4


Stop  Before You Begin - Determine Your Current Installation Location

Before you begin the upgrade, it is essential that you determine your installation location for your current version of FarmBooks. This step will help avoid any future issues!

To do so, find the FarmBooks icon on your Desktop, right-click it and select Properties.

Step 1

AttentionIf the Properties window shows a location for anything other than C:\FarmBooks\, then you will need to uninstall your current version of FarmBooks before you begin the upgrade.

If the location is correct, proceed to
Step 1.

 Step 2

If the location is not correct, follow the steps below to uninstall your current version of FarmBooks.

  • Click on your Start button to open your Start Menu.
    Start  or  Start
  • When the Start Menu opens, click on the Control Panel menu option.
  • When the Control Panel loads double-click (depending on your OS) Add or Remove Programs or Uninstall a program.
     or 
  • When the Program List loads, select FarmBooks and click (depending on your OS) Remove or Uninstall.
  • After the uninstall has completed, close out of your Program List and your Control Panel and proceed to Step 2a of the FarmBooks 4.0 upgrade below.

1. Insert the FarmBooks installation CD into your computer’s CD or DVD player.

2. The FarmBooks install screen will load.

Attention  Tip: If the installation screen does not load

  • Double-click My Computer on your Desktop.
  • Browse to your CD or DVD drive in the left pane of the window (it should now be named FARMBOOKSACCOUNT) and double-click it.
  • It the launch screen does not load, double-click the file named AUTORUN.exe to begin the installation.

3. Click on the Install/Upgrade to FarmBooks 4.0 button.

4. Click on the Next button to begin the upgrade.

5. Click on the Next button to continue.
Step 5

6. Read the terms of the Software License Agreement. If you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button and click Next.
Step 6

7. Enter Your Name and Company/Farm Name and then click Next.
Step 7

8. Confirm the installation location and click Next.
Step 8

9. Click Install to complete the upgrade.
Step 9

10. Once the upgrade is completed, click on the Finish button.

11. Go to your Desktop and double-click the FarmBooks icon to open the program.
Step 11

12. Once FarmBooks is open, click File: Open Farm.
Step 12

13. The Database Conversion window will appear. Click on the Finish button to convert.

14. Click OK when completed.

15. Click Utilities: Maintain Farm Registrations.
Step 15

16. When the Maintain Farm Registration window opens, click on your Farm Name and click Edit.

17. The Change Registration Number window will open.

19. You are now ready to begin using FarmBooks 4.0.
